On a Personal Note, of Orange and Blue

I remember at Camp War Eagle, during some lecture-ish thing at Foy, the guy asked the group why burnt orange and navy blue represents Auburn. I told him that it's the color of a sunset on the Plains. Not the answer he was expecting, but it made him pause.
....
I havn't been back to Auburn in a long while. Relatively, that is. After spending the four (five?) best years of my life there, then having only been back once (three years ago) since then, I find my upcoming reunion in two weeks to be a moment of clarity. I'm really anticipating it.

I'm going to bring my nice camera with me and cram my memory cards with high-res photos. I wish it was going to be spring, which would make for prettier pictures, but I think the quiet campus will be easier to shoot.

The arboretum, the turtle pond at Foy, the Quad (of course), The BBQ House, Plainsman Park, Jordan-Hare, Samford, Lowder, Toomer's Corner... much to revisit. Once I get back, I'll start uploading them to Flickr to share. I'll give you guys a link.

I've just begun to wonder what effect the visit will have on me -- in the defining sense. Auburn shaped me into a large chunk of the person I am today. The Auburn Experience... the Auburn Family. You know what I'm talking about. It was one of only 2 actual defining time periods in my life so far.

With that in mind, I like to think whether revisiting the Loveliest Village will bring back that sensation. Or if the effect will take hold once more, even for a moment. I had one of those moments today...

As I perused the school library, I happened upon a copy of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". It looked familiar... I flipped through it, and was instantly transported to a part of my life that was lost deep, deep within my subconcious. Just those simple images.

I wonder what Samford Hall will evoke.

So many memories. Phase 10. Painting the Quadapalooza sign. Going to Wal-Mart to buy spray paint to paint the Quadapalooza sign. Jumping into a dumpster behind Sears to grab cardboard boxes for the Halloween maze (hehe). Comfy Couch. "Nibbles" and "Gorilla" on the 486 at the front desk. Milo's after the game. Breakfast at Foy. Broun Soccer in the hall. AOL cd battles with Harper.

I can remember these things, but can't really feel them as much anymore. That's what I hope will happen when I'm there.

Granted, it would not have been the best four years of my life without the wonderful people... and they won't be there. A new generation of Brounies has already come and gone (I wonder if they still call themselves that?) Thankfully, we have this blog to keep that alive.

Let's never forget our Auburn roots... the bonds that were formed there, and the characters that were built.

War Eagle.
