ESPN.com Releases Post-Spring Top 25 Rankings

ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel has released his Top 25 College Football Teams following the spring practices. Auburn is listed at 16th. Here's the full ranking

I'm actually surprised to see Auburn ranked this high, albeit only by one isolated columnist. Perhaps we've looked better in spring practice than I had hoped? Having our top two RBs returning couldn't have hurt, either. Hopefully, this means that the 5 new players in the front 7 on defense are looking like good performers.

EDIT - This is not the ranking you are looking for

Star Wars Prequel Analysis.

Yesterday was apparently International Star Wars Day ("May the Fourth be with you!" -- bad pun, I know), and I'm writing this post in belated celebration of the day and in anticpation of the one-year run-up to Episode III.

May 19, 2005. Mark it in your calendars.

Donald Trull, the North Carolina native and author of The Lard Biscuit, has recently posted his lengthy analysis of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. While I don't agree with his every observation, I like his style, and I think his work proves that there is quite a bit of thought behind the oft-maligned prequel trilogy. We can argue whether George Lucas executed the ideas successfully, but it's clear that deep, intricate ideas are there to be found.

His original analysis of Episode I: The Phantom Menace can be found here, and the Clones analysis can be found here.

(And I have my own theories about Star Wars, a few of which can be found in my personal blog. My theory about Yoda can be found here, and my theory about the films' Southern symbolism can be found here.)

Enjoy.

Graduation

Seeing as two of the main purposes of this blog are to mention Auburn-related news and to post information about potential get-togethers, it seems to me that there's no more relevant topic to discuss than graduation. Several posters here are graduating, and a few others will be going to Auburn for the event. So, what are your graduation plans? If you're graduating, what kind of posse do you have coming into town? What festivities are going on for the big day? Which session are you in? If you're traveling for the festivities, what are your plans once you're there?

In case all of the interrogatives weren't obvious enough, comments are not only welcome, but are necessary for this topic to be even remotely useful.

Baseball Update

AUBURN TIGERS

Auburn followed up a Tuesday win over Samford by being swept by Florida in Gainesville this weekend. The Tigers lost Sunday in spectacular fashion, 22-8 .

MONTGOMERY BISCUITS

The Biscuits were plagued by rain this week, as they were forced to play 2 doubleheaders in 3 days, splitting them both. The first came at the end of a 4-game series with the Tennessee Smokies on Friday, with the Biscuits coming away with an overall series split. The second twinbill was on Sunday in Jacksonville against the Suns to open a 4-game series.

B.J. Upton currently leads the Biscuits with a .316 batting average after playing in 21 games, with 2 home runs and a .395 on-base percentage.

AUBURN IN THE MLB

Mark Bellhorn of the Boston Red Sox had a standard performance this past week, drawing 7 walks in 6 games while going 5-for-16 with 2 runs scored and 5 driven in during the Red Sox sweep of Tampa Bay to start the week, and during the Rangers sweep of the Sox this weekend.

Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox had a good week, going 8-for-21 to raise his batting average to .303 on the season after starting the week at .275. He also drew 6 walks in as many games while bashing two home runs with 4 runs scored and 3 driven in. The White Sox split a two-game set with the Indians to start the week, and took 3 of 4 from Toronto to end it.

Tim Hudson of the Oakland A's had a miserable week, losing games to the New York yankees and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Against the yankees, Hudson gave up 4 runs on 5 hits in 7 innings pitched in a 10-8 loss during a sweep of the A's by the Army of Darkness. Against Tampa, Hudson was rocked for 8 runs on 9 hits in 7 innings in a 8-2 loss to the Devil Rays. It was the only game the A's lost to the Devil Rays in the 3-game series this weekend.
