AU Preview: Western Kentucky

Just one more week until we start playing real teams again. I'm looking forward to having to put up a preview for a game that's actually in question, these joke games make it hard to motivate myself for these.

One again the preview info comes entirely from SecSports.com, since Auburn is unranked and therefore has no preview elsewhere that I am aware of. Here are the "key players" from Western Kentucky.

QB Justin Haddix (Jr)
Entered the year as the school's career record holder in both completion percentage (54.6%) and pass efficiency rating (136.48)...He begins the season seventh in the NCAA in career pass efficiency rating among active players ... Ranked 19th among the top 20 returning quarterbacks in NCAA Division I-AA football by The Sports Network.

RB Lerron Moore (Sr)
Starting tailback slot for the third straight year ... Is fifth all-time at WKU with 12 100-yard games ... Ranked 11th by The Sports Network among the top 20 returning running backs in NCAA I-AA.

CB Antonio Thomas (Sr.)
Selected third-team All-America by The Sports Network and CollegeSportsReport.com ... A first-team all-Gateway Conference honoree ... Started all 12 games after shifting from safety to cornerback in the offseason.

LB Brandon Smith (Sr.)
Started all 12 games, posting 68 tackles ... Led the team with 11.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage and five sacks, tying for the league lead in the latter category ... Ranked fifth in the conference in tackles for loss.

So, it looks like we might actually be up against a QB that knows what to do with the ball, but I seriously doubt that his offensive line can be up to the challenge of dealing with Auburn's awesome defensive ends. Haddix may become one with the ground many times today. This should be a slaughter, and even giving up a TD with the 1st string defense on the field would be a bit of an embarrassment.

Jason's Prediction: Auburn 59, Western Kentucky 10

Fun NFL Fact

Two weeks into the new NFL season, I present your NFL rushing yardage leader:

Carnell (Cadillac) Williams with 276 yards on 51 carries (5.41 ypc) and 2 TDs. That's just insane. This is something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
