Dennis the Menace
Yeah, it's an obvious title, but I wanted to use it before all the news coverage beat me to it. Anyway, Hurricane Dennis is now a Category 4 Hurricane with sustained winds of 150MPH, according to the Weather Channel as of late this morning. That is a mere 5 MPH from the very upper bound of how strong a Category 4 hurricane can be before it becomes a Category 5. It is currently expected to smack the Mobile-Pensacola area head on late Sunday or early Monday, but could go as far west as the New Orleans area, and as far east as the main body of Florida. So basically, from Rich and Sara over to Will, some of us are going to get very, very wet and wind-blown. I believe I heard today that Eglin AFB is being evacuated in preparation for Dennis hitting that area, so I hope that Jello and the Jiggler are doing well and are happily on their way to Birmingham. Or possibly Kentucky, if this thing becomes a Category 5.
If Dennis hits the Mobile or Pensacola area, as expected, and takes a NNE track, as is apparently expected at the moment, it looks like either Caroline or myself (probably both, at this rate) will get some pretty significant weather as well. Anyone in the Auburn area can expect a fun time, too (Nathan?). Personally, I'm hoping to get a day or two of work off from this, and I hope that Dennis does no more damage to the area than Ivan did last year.
The frightening thing about this is that 2005 is supposed to be an even more active hurricane season than last year (I think Rebecca just threw something at me from FL when I typed this), and the last time that a hurricane of similar strength to Dennis hit the United States this early in the hurricane season was 70 years ago. Those of us living in the Gulf Coast states may be in for a very, very long year.

Happy 4th!
Happy Fourth of July to all of my fellow Brounies. Just returned from Memphis about 30 mins ago, and I thought I'd ask what everyone else has been up to for the big day/weekend. Any particularly spectacular fireworks displays? Any momentous burning of muffins or anything else of note?
All times Central. War Damn Eagle.
