Basketball Probation

Auburn's basketball program was put on probation for two years by the NCAA. There was a loss of one scholarship but the program has been cleared of any major violations. You can read more about it here.

Does anyone know what led to the loss of the scholarship?

Auburn Salvages Last Game Against MSU

AUBURN - Sean Gamble's RBI single scoring Tug Hulett capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning as 11th-ranked Auburn tallied a 6-5 come-from-behind victory over Mississippi State Sunday at Plainsman Park. Auburn improved to 28-14 and 9-9 in the league while the Bulldogs fell to 26-15 and 8-10. Full Story

This follows losing the first two games of the series on Friday and Saturday. Last Tuesday, Auburn won a 10-0 mercy rule game against South Alabama in Auburn. It seems that South Alabama just couldn't get anything going away from Stanky Field.

Montgomery Biscuits

This past week, the Biscuits pulled off an extra-inning win on Thursday to avoid a sweep by Mobile in Montgomery. The Biscuits took some momentum from that win up to Mobile with them, where they won 2 out of the 3 games played so far. The Biscuits play this morning's early game in Mobile looking for their first series win of the season.

Auburn Alumni in the MLB

Mark Bellhorn of the Boston Red Sox was instrumental in the team's sweep of the New York yankees this past weekend in NY, driving in or scoring the winning run in all 3 games. After struggling during the week in Toronto, Bellhorn only went 3-for-12 against the Yankees while drawing 2 walks, but scored 3 times and drove in 3.

Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox missed some games this week due to a slgiht hamstring injury, but came on strong in the 3 games he played, going 3-for-8 with 2 home runs and 3 walks in a weekend series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays

Tim Hudson of the Oakland A's pitched 8 innings on Wednesday, giving up 4 runs in a 7-4 win over the Seattle Mariners

Auburn in the NFL Draft

Well, the NFL draft ended today, and here is how Auburn players fared:

Karlos Dansby - 1st pick of 2nd round (33rd overall) by the Arizona Cardinals

Dontarrious Thomas - 16th pick of 2nd round (48th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings

Reggie Torbor - 1st pick of 4th round (97th overall) by the New York Giants

Jeris McIntyre - 30th pick of 6th round (195th overall) by the Kansas City Chiefs

It is also noteworthy that Cadillac Williams made ESPN's Top 5 list of players who will be graduating for next year's draft.

Jason's Analysis:

Poor Dansby. A run on offensive players dropped him down to the 2nd round, where he was picked to play in the NFL hinterlands of Arizona. I had hoped to see the Patriots take him with the last pick of the 1st round, but the team decided to replace the Cooper Wallace Clone Show at TE with a rookie, and I can't really argue with that.

Thomas did well to be a mid-2nd round pick for a team that will be competitive next season. At least they should be...it's the NFL, so there's no telling who will compete and who will suck. Thomas should eventually help to stop the hemorraging wound that has been the Vikings run defense in the past couple of years. He should be glad he got the NFC North team that plays in a dome.

Reggie Torbor, to my surprise, was taken as an outside linebacker. I could have sworn he was on the DL at Auburn. Oh well. We'll see what the Giants will do with him, as their defense will likely have every player see some time while Eli Manning tries to figure out the other NFC East defenses.

Jeris McIntyre becomes the latest addition to a difficult KC WR corps to evaluate. They seem to put up numbers beyond their apparent talent, and McIntyre may benefit from the system they are running there. Oh yeah, and having Priest Holmes won't hurt, either.
