Auburn in the NFL Draft
Well, after last year's insane 4 alumni being drafted in the 1st round, Auburn was in for a bit of a letdown in this year's NFL draft. Here's a look at which distinguished former Auburn stars went to which fortunate NFL teams.
Marcus McNeill (OT) went to the San Diego Chargers with the 18th pick in the 2nd round (50th overall). This is not quite as high as McNeill was rumored to go when the NFL offseason started, but the 2nd round to a team that will compete isn't a bad route to take.
Devin Aromashodu (WR) went to the Miami Dolphins with the 25th pick in the 7th round (233rd overall). Aromashodu joins Ronnie Brown with former LSU coach Nick Saban in Miami. This is bittersweet for me, as I now must shed two single tears as the Patriots break them like twigs twice a year. Devin could make an impact on special teams right away.
Stanley McGlover (DE) went to the Carolina Panthers with the 29th pick of the 7th round (237th overall). This is just frightening for fans of the Falcons, Buccaneers, and *snicker* Saints, as McGlover can take his Croyle-bashing skills to be honed by none other than Julius Peppers and a Carolina defensive unit that has been strong for years. It may take a couple of years for McGlover to add the size and techniques needed to be an impact player on the NFL level, but we have all seen that the raw talent is there, and Carolina does not lack for skilled defensive coaches.
Ben Obomanu (WR) went to the Seattle Seahawks with the 41st pick in the 7th round (249th overall). Obomanu suffers the indignity of being drafted in the supplemental portion of the last round of the draft (there are only 32 picks per normal round), which seems like karmic justice for his drop against Ole Miss a couple years ago. Not that I'm a vengeful person or anything. Seattle has pretty decent depth at WR going into next season, so Obomanu will likely be competing for a roster spot in the summer.
All times Central. War Damn Eagle.
