Sign-up

Alright, lets try this again since I think my last post got deleted. First off, this is Grant, the post signiture you see below has to do with the other blog I will talking about. Alright, I am going to be sending out newsletters/prayer letters about once a month, so if you want to get it, please put your email in the comments section. My team has also made a blog (anyone with recent HTML experience, feel free to give advice since its been 4 years since last time I did anything with it). This blog will not have our names on it or where we will be, which will allow us to avouid talking in code all the time (yes, we have found a way to post on Blogger even though its blocked). To get this address, either sign up for the newsletter or email me asking for it.

AU Preview: Georgia

First, ESPN's thoughts on the game.

When Georgia Has the Ball:

Georgia run offense vs. Auburn run defense
Georgia's freshman sensation at RB, Danny Ware, is likely to miss the game with a sprained knee and ankle. UGA coach Mark Richt has announced that freshman RB Thomas Brown will start in his place. Auburn's run defense has only allowed 3 yards per carry and 1 rushing touchdown all year, so the front 7 should be able to shut down Georgia's rushing attack for most of the game.
Avantage: Auburn

Georgia pass offense vs. Auburn pass defense
Georgia QB David Greene has recovered enough from a virus this past week to be available to start the game this Saturday. Auburn has only allowed an average of 9.3 points per game so far this season, which indicates the ability to clamp down in the red zone. If Greene isn't at 100% and has to force passes due to the lack of a running game, Auburn may take advantage of any mistakes he makes.

When Auburn Defensive Coordinator Gene Chizik blitzes, watch the matchup of AU DB Carlos Rogers against UGA WR Fred Gibson. Rogers has the size to jam Gibson at the line, but if he misses a jam, Gibson is very fast, and can burn him deep.
Advantage: Auburn

When Auburn Has the Ball

Auburn run offense vs. Georgia run defense
While Williams and Brown are one of the best RB combos in the country, Georgia's defense has the size and speed in the front 7 to counter. Georgia's safeties are also excellent in run support. DT Gerald Anderson has the size to clog up the middle, where Williams does his best running, while DE David Pollack and MLB Odell Thurman have the speed to close off the outside runs that Brown enjoys the most.
Advantage: Georgia

Auburn pass offense vs. Georgia pass defense
Surprise, surprise. Jason Campbell will need to play well and take advantage of Auburn's opponent bunching up to stop the running game. I should just copy and paste this line from every preview.

Auburn may need to use 3 and 4-WR formations to spread out the defense and open up some holes for the running game. To do that, Campbell will need to find the right matchups and get rid of the ball quickly to avoid many unhappy greetings from DE David Pollack. Expect to see Auburn throw quite a bit on 1st down to try to keep Georgia off-balance. Also, expect to see some deep passes to try to take Georgia's safeties out of the run defense by forcing them to play deep.

Special Teams
While Georgia punt returner Thomas Flowers has shown some big play ability (74-yard return last week), Auburn P Kody Bliss tends to get excellent hang time on his punts, and Auburn's coverage team has been playing well. Georgia's Andy Bailey (13-for-18) and Auburn's Jon Vaughn (6-for-9) have both been good, but somewhat inconsistent. The difference between the two teams (both have excellent punters) is the presence of Carnell Williams on Auburn's kick return and punt return teams. Aromashodu has also shown some big-play ability on kickoff returns.
Advantage: Auburn

ESPN's Prediction: Auburn 20, Georgia 14

Jason's Notes
While ESPN gives Auburn the edge due to the bye week, I am not so certain. A team that gets into a groove and plays well on a long streak is as likely to lose momentum during an off week as they are to power up from being rested. I worry about a sloppy opening to the game by Auburn.

Georgia being without their star RB is huge for Auburn. David Greene recovering from an illness gives Auburn a slight edge against both parts of Georgia's offense. If Greene is fully recovered, watch for Georgia's non-Gibson WRs to be a huge factor. I think that Junior Rosegreen is going to be the key to the game more so than Carlos Rogers, due to Georgia's depth at WR. Greene won't need to even challenge Rogers if he thinks his #2 and #3 WRs can beat our other DBs, so Rosegreen has to step up and make him think otherwise.

The game is televised nationally on CBS at 2:30PM CST. Bubba and I shall both be at this game, and Auburn is 1-0 this season with that combination. The only question is how much Red Sox stuff I should wear for the sake of positive mojo.

Drawn with Pride.

For those of you who think reading the comics before the stock market report will make you live longer, here's a good read. The other day, Sara ran across a new strip entitled Kevin and Kell (the basis of which I am unfamiliar), drawn by an Auburn graduate.

Here's the catch - the strip is actually set at AU! It involves a bunch of foresty-animals attending a school called "Beige University". There are scenes of all the famous (and not so famous) buildings on campus. I'm waiting for him to set a strip in the Quad.

Only 5 days until AU/UG. I will say no more.
